Last week I mentioned how evenings were getting kinda rough over here with Alivia and how I had to take her for a late night car right just to get her to stop crying. I was hoping that things would be getting better but they haven't. I'm starting to see more of a pattern with her fussiness and I'm just praying that this whole thing isn't here to stay.
See, we can go through the entire day with a super happy baby, and then come 6:00 o'clock, things start to go south. We can usually make it through dinner hour and then before we know it, Alivia starts in with the crying. What makes it even harder is that she wants nothing to do with anyone but me. I've been down this road before but for some reason the thought of that doesn't make things any better. I was hoping that after experiencing the horrible crying we had to go through with Audrey and her acid reflux when she was a baby, I wasn't going to have to go back down this path.
I'm trying to remind myself that this stage won't last forever but in the thick of things, it's hard to see clearly. Last night I broke down and did what I never do and tried to give Livvie a bottle of formula, thinking that maybe she was still hungry. At that point, she'd nursed for a good hour straight and I was feeling a bit raw to say the least. To those who know me well, you know that formula is something I don't do, but I was feeling desperate. Well, turns out Livvie hated it and ended up throwing up all over both of us.
We're getting closer to that particular time of day when things get tough and I'm starting to dread what's to come. Do you think you can do me a huge favor and pray for us? Pray that Alivia doesn't have the dreaded "C" word and that we'll get through this stage quickly. I know she won't be little for long, but it's times like these that feel forever in the moment.
I know we'll get through this and just for proof to Daddy (who doesn't believe me that this little girl isn't always crying) here she was this morning during breakfast...
She might look serious here, but at least she wasn't crying!
P.S. Just in case you're wondering if I know about the Five S's, yup, I do and I've tried them. I'm also trying to give her gripe water but it's not doing anything quite yet. Tonight I'm going to try the white noise thing and see if that works. It's just getting her to down for the night that's tough and thankfully she's down for a while. Thank goodness for sleep at night!

What a cutie. i had a crier in the evenings. Actress had the "C" word so bad...the day after she turned 3 months...it ended. All of it. She was a totally different baby.
Try the homeopathic "C" pills.
I know how you are feeling...hang in there.
she is so precious! all the books i have say it is somewhat "normal" to have a crying phase in the evening, i know that doesn't help!! You think she might be tired??? i never realized it until she was a little older, but that is when callyn always cried. she was bright eyed and awake but i kept her up too long!!
It's 9:15 here, which means it's 6:15 for you - I'm praying for you and hoping things are quiet on the West Coast!
Poor Mommy!!!! I know that has to be so rough, especially since you're probably hoping for a little rest at night since your hubby is there. For the record, I have no idea what the Five S's are. LOL!! Does she nap pretty good during the day? Sorry I just have no advice for you :( Have you tried a pacifier? Maybe she's nursing so much just because it soothes her? I will pray that it gets better!!
I'm with Kristin: what are the 5 S's? I'm really sorry she has such a fussy time each evening; I'm terrified of that kind of thing. And of the C word. Praying for you!!!
I used to dread evening hours too, but it was because I would have to put all three kids to bed by my self, and couldn't be in three places at once, so ended up with three crying children, ages 3, 2, and infant. I have been doing a lot of research lately about food allergy/intolerance and often what mom is eating can cause that dreaded "C" in their nursing babies. Mostly it is dairy, but sometimes can be other things (just found out my little guy is allergic to eggs). Also there is a book/video out there called "the happiest baby on the block" It combines white noise, movement, and swaddling from what little I know. A friend had great success with it. I pray things will get better soon!
Totally LOVING on you tonight!!!
I'm so sorry. And I know that feeling of wanting to enjoy every second of the babieness but feeling so exhausted of the crying.
Grace cried from 5pm-8pm every single night {we called it happy hour} 6 -8 months {2-4 months corrected}. It was just what she did...and then she got over it.
Praying for you.
You need a mommy night out :)
I was reading your blog about 7pm and then I saw you take off in the car. Poor Veronica! Let me know if me or the other neighbor can help. We are both on call!!!
We bought the 'Happiest Baby on the Block' DVD which explains all the S's. We tried them all and they all worked wonderfully for Evan. The white noise was the best though.
We put a radio in his room and set the tuner on a static station and we'd turn it on whenever he'd get fussy. It was amazing because he literally would stop crying immediately and go into this daze, kinda like he was frozen. It worked wonders. We had it turned up a bit loud which seemed to work better than it being quite. Maybe that might help?
We also swaddled him until he was just a little over 4 months old. He would never sleep without being swaddled. Do you still swaddle her at night or whenever she's sleeping? Evan seemed very comforted with being all snug.
Hope you have a better night tonight. I'll be praying.
I'm praying for you. I think the evening thing is something that is always there. All babies are different but Carly my 1 yr old will not nap during the day. Maybe a couple 20 minutes and that's it. She is up at 6am and resdy to go for the day. By the time I need to fix supper and she is crying only wants Mommy. It was hard when she was little but is getting better. Once I get her to sleep about 7pm she is out for the night. The tough part is from 5 - 7. I wonder some nites how do I fix dinner plus the others are home from school w/homework.
Sending you some {{HUGS}}
Take care
Caroline
Oh Ver...I had that with V in the evenings. She would SCREAM and the worst part was she wanted NOTHING to do with me. Ted would come home and take her for a car ride to calm her down and give me some quiet. But the moment they were home and she was out of the car, she'd start the screaming again. I do remember it only lasting a few weeks though, so hopefully your Alivia is just going through a stage. I'll be praying for you tonight!
Bless her heart and yours! I was going to say sounds like she has colic but I won't say that now :)
Of course it won't last forever but that doesn't make it any easier to get through at the time. Praying for you both!
oh man. that stinks. know that i'm praying. and will continue to. because prayer is the one thing that does for sure work...but in God's timing not ours. :) keep on keeping on!!
Praying for you all! Molly did the same thing, but only on Wed. nights, it was so weird, I swear!!
So sorry things have been tough with Alivia. It def is hard when they get so fussy like that and I hope that it doesn't stay that way! It can be very frustrating!!
