Music and books

It's a quarter after one.  I'm all alone, and I need you now....

Recognize this line from a song?

Yep, it's from Lady Antebellum and I was so excited when my sister Dolly asked me to go with her to see them in concert last Friday!  She was given two tickets for some amazing seats at their show up in Atascadero, (about an hour north of here) at the California Mid-State Fair and I totally couldn't pass that up!

It's been forever since I've listened to country music faithfully.  I used to listen to country and R&B/Rock all the time on the radio but then a couple years back I switched mostly to Christian radio. Lately, I've been finding myself adding in a little more secular music again and I've really enjoyed it.  I think there are so many amazingly talented artists out there and it's nice to hear a variety of music.

I bought the new Adele C.D. a while back and I can't even tell you how many times I've listened to it.      Especially in the car going around town.  I think what I love most is the soul in Adele's voice. :)

Back to country, since it's been so long since I've really listened to Country radio, I wasn't familiar with many of Lady Antebellum's songs.  And honestly, the main reason why I was even familiar with the song "Need You Now" (the first line in this post) is because one of my sisters used to have it as her ringtone on her phone. For the longest time my Mom used to complain that she'd have to listen to It's a quarter after one, I'm a little drunk and I need you now while she waited for my sister to pick up her phone. :)  I always laughed to myself about that one!

The concert was the day before my sister's 30th birthday and was a fun way to celebrate a little bit early!  We had the best time and it was awesome getting to see/hear them in real life.  You get used to hearing music on the radio, but there is nothing like seeing a live show.  So awesome!

What I mostly loved about Lady Antebellum was the chemistry of the group, especially with the two lead singers. They were amazing and as part of the audience, they totally have you thinking they are "together" just by the way they sing so well together. Like a "real" couple. I loved it!

I had the best time that night and was so thankful that my Hubby watched the girls for me, even when I got the invite to go to the concert at the last minute (my sister called me that same day), and after a long but fun day out with friends from out of town.  Thank you, honey! :)

And speaking of the Lady A and the South...I've still been reading like a crazy person lately and finally finished The Help.
The Help
Let me tell you...it is SO good.  It was eye opening, moving, happy and sad and seriously one of the best books I've ever read. I was totally sad last night when I finally finished it, it was that good!  I'm totally looking forward to going to my first book club meeting on the 15th and then going out with the girls to watch the movie!  I can't wait!

It is fun to go to a concert. Remember when John took me to see Reba, and George Strait? I love music...and enjoy a variety. I will check out Adele.

That was so nice of Fern to watch the girls and I am so glad you got to go with your sister! You two look a lot alike. Cute!

Sometimes I crack up at people's ringtones! Lynnette has hers set to ring like an old fashioned phone...and sometimes phones will go off at church with some crazy song...and someone my age jumps up to silence it...and it just amuses me.

Lady Antebellum has a good sound.

Luv ya!
Momma

I'm so glad you had so much fun! I love that picture of you and your sister :) That's the only song of theirs that I know, but I like it. Growing up, all I listened to was country until high school and I mostly listened to rock. I only have heard one song of Adele's but I love her voice too. I need to download some of her songs on itunes. I'm going to be getting a collection going to listen to when I'm in labor. Ha! So, I am totally going to have to read The Help, after your review!
